Interview : Gopichand – Emotional drama between brothers is the core element of Rama Banam

Gopichand’s Rama Banam, produced by People Media Factory, and directed by Sriwass, is all set to hit the screens tomorrow. Dimple Hayati played the female lead. The film features an ensemble cast, including Jagapathi Babu, Khushbu, Sachin Khedekar, Nasser, Ali, Raja Ravindra, Vennela Kishore, Saptagiri, Kashi Vishwanath, Satya, Getup Srinu, Sameer, and Tarun Arora. Mickey J Meyer composed the tunes. Ahead of the release, we had a brief interaction with Gopichand, and here is the transcript.

How did Rama Banam take off?

I did more action entertainers in the last few years, and it’s been a while since I acted in a family drama. Sriwass wanted to do an action film with me, but I was not okay with it. Our previous films, Lakshyam and Loukyam, will have a neat family drama along with family elements. During this, Bhupathi Raja Garu narrated me this story, and that’s how Rama Banam took off.

Audiences’ tastes have changed a lot over the years. What care did your team take to make the film appealing to one and all?

Emotions don’t change, and they stay the same always. Though the generations change, there won’t be any difference as far as emotions are concerned. If we are able to hook the audience, then that is the success of filmmakers. If the viewers get bored, then they would take out their mobile phones. A filmmaker shouldn’t give that chance.

Don’t you think OTTs have become a threat to films?

After the release of promotional content, the audience will decide whether to watch that film or skip it. If the viewers choose to watch a movie, they will certainly watch it in theatres and won’t think about OTT.

How was it working with Khushbu Garu?

This was the first time I had worked with Khushbu Garu. I used to see her films during my college days, and now I acted alongside her. Khushbu Garu is very friendly in the sets, and when it comes to work, she is very professional. Khusbhu Garu is a huge asset for Rama Banam.

Which point impressed you the most in Rama Banam?

Emotional drama between brothers is the core element of Rama Banam. When I heard the story, I got connected to that emotion as a viewer but not as a hero. I didn’t feel bored when Bhupathi Raja Garu gave me the narration for one and a half hours.

There is a talk that you will work with Srinu Vaitla Garu. Can you say a few words about it?

I am in talks with Srinu Vaitla, sir. I am already shooting for a film directed by Harsha. The movie with Srinu Vaitla Garu will begin after this flick. I am ready to work with new directors who have a spark in them. I am supposed to do a film with Teja Garu as well.

Why should the audience watch Rama Banam?

It is an emotional family entertainer. Audiences come to the theatres to forget their problems and to get relaxed. So I am sure that everyone will enjoy Rama Banam thoroughly.
