Interview : Kiran Abbavaram – Rules Ranjann is a wholesome entertainer

Rules Ranjann, starring Kiran Abbavaram and Neha Sshetty in the lead roles, is scheduled to arrive in theatres worldwide on October 6. The film is directed by Rathinam Krishna, the son of A.M Rathnam. It is produced by Murali Krishna Vemuri and Divyang Lavania under the banner Star Light Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Ahead of the film’s release, Kiran Abbavaram interacted with the media, and here is the transcript.

What is the rulebook that Rules Ranjann follows?

Please don’t go by the title. There is nothing specific as far as rules are concerned. Rules Ranjann is a wholesome entertainer. I have been stressing this from the day we started promotions. I guarantee that the audience will keep laughing for the entire runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Many comedy films have come till date. What’s so unique about Rules Ranjann?

For the first time, I shared screen space with actors like Vennela Kishore and Hyper Aadhi. My earlier films were subject-driven, and they didn’t have much space for comedy. Rules Ranjann has situational comedy where you unknowingly fall in love with characters that keep chipping at regular intervals.

Could you tell us about your character in the film?

I play Mano Ranjan, an innocent chap. I was a little soft in Raja Varu Rani Garu. You must have come across a few children who are nursed so carefully and affectionately within the precincts of his house. All comforts are at their disposal. Mano Ranjan is someone who had that kind of upbringing. He is not sure how to react if someone blames him. When he faces certain situations, he places rules on the people who restrict him. This will be the best part of Rules Ranjann.

How relatable is Mano’s character to your real life, as you were a software engineer before coming to the industry?

It is very relatable. During the shoot, I recalled the days I worked as a software engineer. I worked in Chennai and didn’t even know the language there. As I am from a rural village, I do not even know how a cafeteria would look like. Adapting to the corporate culture has been difficult for me, and we have incorporated all of those aspects in the film.

What made you do this film when Rathinam Krishna narrated the story?

In 2021, I met Rathinam Krishna. I believe the story has the potential to become a good visual comedy drama. Audiences will have a laugh riot all the while. Vennela Kishore plays the casting director in Bollywood. There are many hilarious scenes between me and Vennela Kishore. Even the tracks featuring Viva Harsha and Subbaraju came out well.
