Interview : Mahati Swara Sagar – I’m not fully satisfied with my compositions

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s upcoming movie, Bholaa Shankar, is all set for a massive release on August 11, 2023. Ahead of its release, we had the opportunity to interview the film’s music director, Mahati Swara Sagar. Here’s a transcript of the interview.

How did you become a part of Bholaa Shankar?

Actor Rao Ramesh garu came to me and said I would be scoring the music for Chiranjeevi’s movie. At first, I thought he was joking, but the very next day, Meher Ramesh explained the story to me, and that’s how I became a part of Bholaa Shankar.

Did you feel any pressure while working on Chiranjeevi’s movie?

Yes, I did. It was both a pleasure and a pressure to work on Chiru sir’s movie. However, I observed how other music directors had composed music for Chiranjeevi’s films, and then I started composing the tracks. I tried to compose unique tracks with a modern touch. As an audience, I felt that I could have done better. I am not fully satisfied with my compositions as I feel they fell short of the actor’s aura and charisma.

What role does your father play in your music?

He doesn’t involve himself in my music compositions, but he always advises me on how to give my best according to the story. He encourages me when I compose a lovely tune and criticizes me when it’s not up to the mark. He always insists that I try to inject melody into every song I compose for any movie.

What was Chiranjeevi’s reaction after listening to your compositions?

When I went to him with my first composition for the film – Bholaa Mania – I was quite nervous about how he would react. But he listened to it and appreciated me, which gave me immense joy and boosted my confidence. Sometimes, he also suggested how the songs should be based on the situation. Milky Beauty song is completely his idea.

What are your future projects?

After Bholaa Shankar, I will work on Prathinidhi 2, a film with Gopichand, and a Tamil movie directed by my friend. I will share more details about these movies at the appropriate time.
