Interview : Sundeep Kishan – Michael’s story excited me pretty much

Young actor Sundeep Kishan is all set to entertain audiences with his first pan-Indian movie, Michael. Directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi, the flick is up for a grand release on 3rd February. Vijay Sethupathi, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Varun Sandesh, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and others played significant roles in this flick which is produced by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Karan C Productions LLP. Sam CS is composing the tunes. Ahead of the release, we interacted with Sundeep Kishan for a brief interview, and here is the transcript.

What attracted you more about Michael? Is it action or romance?

The film’s story excited me pretty much. I always believe a drama story will be very interesting. If you observe the recent successful movies, the narrative style in the backdrop will be completely new and different. The emotions will be very strong.

Whose decision was it regarding the casting?

It was a collaborative decision. Regarding Vijay Sethupathi, sir, Ranjit and I decided to have him on board. Then Ranjit approached Vijay anna, and he accepted the role. A Hindi artist was supposed to do one crucial role, but Gautham Menon sir played that role because we wanted someone new to play that character.

What’s so new about this gangster drama?

This is an emotional film set in the gangster world. But it isn’t a gangster drama like Raktacharithra or Satya. It is an emotional story about a guy and his love. So the vibe of Michael is very different. There will be a surprise in the narrative style.

Did you dub for all the languages?

I dubbed for Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil versions. When I saw the first cut, I had a tear in my eye. After that, I had no words and gave Ranjit a warm hug. My team worked hard on the film and gave their best to Michael.

Nani Garu said you are underrated. Where do you think you are going wrong?

If they are calling me underrated, I am happy. If someone says I am overrated, then it is a problem. Luck is an unavoidable thing, and if we work hard, we can surely succeed. If luck too favors, it will be really great.

Do you think Michael will be as successful as Venkatadri Express?

During Venkatadri Express, I was a newcomer and was doing very good films like Prasthanam, Gundello Godari, and Routine Love Story. But, to be honest, people were expecting more from me after these films, and hence a few films underperformed.

How did you manage to get love from the Tamil audience?

I know their culture a bit better. Nani and Sharwanand are busy with their current projects and hence didn’t try in Tamil. My director has to believe in me for Michael, which demands a huge budget. Ranjit believed in me when no one did, and I don’t care where he came from. Now I am getting good offers, and I am happy about it.

Tell us about your future projects

I am doing Family Man season 3. After that, I signed a very exciting film which I can’t talk about it now. That would be my biggest and craziest film to date. It will be an unexpected announcement.
