Bollywood thanks Narendra Modi for reducing GST on ticket prices

For the past few months, the Indian film fraternity has been trying to convince the government to revise the GST levied on movie tickets. Initially, the government announced that 28% GST will be levied on tickets, and it was considerably lower than what Hindi films were charged in several states.

In a surprise move, the government, after meeting delegates from the film industry, announced that the GST will be reduced from 28% to 18% on tickets priced about Rs 100 and just 12% on tickets priced lower than Rs 100. The move is expected to help Bollywood producers in a big way and several actors and producers thanked Narendra Modi for reacting in a positive way.

In South India, this latest move could bring down the prices even further. It remains to be seen how the South Indian producers are going to react to this latest development. More details are awaited.

Heartfelt thank you to Honorable PM & the Govt of India for considering the request of the film industry for reduction in GST. If Indian cinema hopes to compete in the world market then we need the support of the Govt & Administration.

This is a great 1st step in that direction.
