The Coronavirus has taken the lives of many and has made things miserable. Out of the most affected is the film industry as most of the shoots were halted and thaeatres are yet to open since the last seven months or so.

So much is being said and done about the re-opening of these theatres across the country but there is no date in the recokning when things will get back to normal.

But even if the theatres open, how many of us will be interested to go to watch films during this pandemic. It is a risk situation to watch a film along with many others in closed doors and this has directly affected many in the business.

The theatre closure has left the exhibitors reeling in a big way. Multiplex giants are sufering big time with closure of their screens. There are many single screens in the country which have already shut shop in the last few months.

Unable to manage the expenseses, some corporate multiplex ginats have even fired a number of employees. One of the noted multiplexes in Hyderabad, Prasadz has stopped giving salaries to most of their employees due to the lack of business.

If all this is not enough, the advent of OTT has killed the theatres in another angle. People now have the luxory of watching films at their leisure and will come to theatres to watch only big ticket films and rest of the regular releases will be watched on small screens.

Due to all this, the producers will also make their films for OTT platforms more in the days to come. This will not only lesser the chances of people thronging the big screens but will also kill the theatre business.

The talk from the trade circles is that at least 20% of the theatres in the country will shut up in the years to come. Only if the film has a big star and amazing visuals, people would be interested and this is a big problem to survive for the exhbitors.
