The official day-one collections for Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion have come out, and the movie opened with a staggering Rs. 62 crore nett. Trade estimates were over Rs. 65 crore nett, while the producer’s reported number came in slightly lower.
Nonetheless, Drishyam 3 recorded the third-biggest-ever opening for a Bollywood film, just behind Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. If we include Pushpa 2: The Rule, Drishyam 3 ranks as the fourth-biggest opener of all time in the Hindi belt.
What makes Drishyam: The Conclusion’s opening far more impressive is that it isn’t an action-heavy film. It is a family thriller, which usually doesn’t fall into the front-loaded opening zone, but the Drishyam brand, coupled with Ajay Devgn’s stronger reach among the masses, resulted in a bumper opening.
Drishyam: The Conclusion went bonkers in the Maharashtra and NCR circuits, and it is also the biggest opener for Ajay Devgn, surpassing his previous Singham Again (Rs. 43.7 crore nett) by a huge margin. Overseas too, the movie performed exceptionally, with the thriller earning close to $2 million, again the highest for an Ajay Devgn starrer.
The global opening figure is over Rs. 93 crore gross. The film did face capacity constraints in a few territories, without which it could have gone past the three-digit mark. The movie is a blockbuster on arrival, and let’s see what more records it can create in the coming days.
