Shahid Kapoor was recently seen in Cocktail 2, which also stars Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. Directed by Homi Adajania, the film hit theatres on June 19, 2026, and is his latest theatrical release.
Shahid was earlier announced as the lead of Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues, an ambitious mythological action film directed by Sachin Ravi and backed by Jackky Bhagnani. The project was announced in 2024 but was eventually shelved.
In a recent interaction, Bhagnani revealed that multiple factors led to the decision, with Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD also influencing their thinking. He explained that a big-budget film needs to offer something unique, and the team felt that the concept of Ashwatthama was not fresh enough to justify the scale of the project. Kalki 2898 AD had already featured Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama in a major mythological-sci-fi setting.
Despite the shelving of Ashwatthama, Bhagnani confirmed that he and Shahid are still looking for the right project to collaborate on. The duo have been friends for around 20 years, but there is currently no officially announced film between them.
