A few years ago, Prime Video displayed massive domination over global giant Netflix in the Indian market. At that point, Prime Video looked undefeatable as it catered to the masses with a wide variety of content. Also, the high subscription fee worked against Netflix.
However, over the years, the tables have turned, and Netflix now holds the upper hand over Prime Video in India, as it has reportedly registered 92 million monthly users, while Prime Video is lagging behind with 67 million monthly users. While Netflix has seen consistent growth, Prime Video has witnessed a steady decline.
Netflix has now become the go-to platform for filmmakers, thanks to its massive global reach. The platform has also upped its game by focusing on originals with stories deeply rooted in Indian culture. Prices were reduced slightly, and with the increase in quality content, Netflix has attracted more users.
The introduction of ads did more harm than good for Prime Video, and the subscription cost also became dearer. People are now looking beyond price, and whichever platform delivers solid content will have an edge in the market.
