Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam is a film that has been promoted a lot. A small controversy with a TV channel also helped big time. The film is out now and let’s see how it is.

Story:

Arjun(Vishwak Sen) is a small time money lender in Suryapet. He is already 33 and is dying to tie the knot. After a lot of struggle, his father fixes his match and takes Arjun for his engagement with Madhavi(Ruksaar Dhillon). But the twist in the tale arises when the bride goes missing. What happened to her? To know the answer, you need to watch the film on the big screen.

Plus Points:

The film starts off with an engagement to wedding love story but the twist that comes in is handled quite effectively. The emotions related to this aspect and the way director Vidya Sagar handles it looks quite neat.

Vishwak Sen is turning out to be a sensible actor with each film of his. He as a 33 year old unmarried bachelor is quite good in his role. The manner in which he showcases various emotions like frustration, tension, shyness and stuck between family emotions has been nicely showcased by Sen.

Ruksaar Dhillon looks quite beautiful in her role and holds the screen well in the first half. Her scenes with Vishwak Sen have been designed quite well. Vennela Kishore evokes a few laughs in his role. Kadambari Kiran Kumar gets a good role after a long time and does well.

But the surprise package of the film is newcomer Rithika Naik. Her screen presence is simple in the first half but the way she changes gears and evokes good emotions and romance is superb. She has a good screen presence and is amazing for her first’ Telugu film. The small time ego issues in a family have been showcased quite well.

Minus Points:

One of the major drawbacks is the predictable nature of the film. Once the film takes a key turn, things become quite predictable and you exactly know what is going to happen next.

The emotions in the second half of the film look a bit forced. Ruksaar Dhillon has a key role but it is diluted as the way she creates a rift in the story has not been showcased well.

Technical Aspects:

Production values of the film are pretty good as the small town set up is shown well. The entire film happens in just two or three locations and the way cameraman showcases it is quite good. Music by Jay Krish is very good as the songs have been shot well.

Coming to director Vidya Sagar, he has done a decent job with the film. Though Ravi Kiran’s story looks routine, the way sagar narrated it in a neat manner is quite good. Family emotions, romance, and message, Vidya Sagar’s narration handled them well. If he would have made the second half more dramatic the effect would have been even better. Nevertheless, for his first film, his job is decent.

Verdict:

On the whole, Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam has a very predictable premise and storyline. But the simple yet neat narration, able performance by Vishwak Sen, and free flow in the proceedings makes this film a decent watch this weekend.
