A small-budget film named Krishna Ghattam has hit the screens today. The film stars Chaitanya Krishna, Dr. Venkata Govada, Vinay Nallakadi, Maya Nelluri, and Sasha Singh in the lead roles. Let’s see how the film is.

Story:

Set in a rural area named Chekka Palli, Krishna Ghattam is about the lives of Prasad (Dr. Venkata Govada) and Rajesh (Chaitanya Krishna). Prasad, a bank employee by profession, is fond of stage plays and has a good reputation as a theatre artist. Rajesh, on the other hand, is a carefree youngster who woos Rama (Maya Nelluri), a village belle. A disaster strikes, which makes Rajesh understand the essence of life. What is it? This forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

The premise is interesting as the movie draws inspiration from the Indian epic Mahabharata. Also, the way the film ends is too good. Many aspects related to life are well explained with a lengthy sequence in the climax, which is clap-worthy. The dialogues are well written, and a few make us think.

Dr. Venkata Govada is phenomenal in his role. His performance, especially during the stageplay and the climax, is spellbinding. Chaitanya Krishna is neat in his role, and so are Maya Nelluri, Sasha Singh, Duvvasi Mohan, and Vinay Nallakadi. The first half is watchable. The pre-interval to interval portions are good.

Minus Points:

Though the film’s first half has a few interesting moments, the second half isn’t engaging. The proceedings are boring for the most part. There was a lot of scope with regard to the film’s subject, but the makers didn’t utilize it thoroughly.

The whole track involving a prostitute and Vinay Nallakadi hasn’t been presented effectively, and it lacks clarity, too. The love portions in the first half were repetitive, and it takes the majority of the screen time.

The movie is slow-paced throughout, and a few scenes could have been chopped off. Mainly, Krishna Ghattam is a kind of film that caters to just a few sections of the audience, and others might not like it.

Technical Aspects:

Music composer Peddapalli Rohith did a decent job. The cinematography by Surya Vinay is good, as he captures the rural atmosphere in a neat manner. The editing could have been better. Production values are fine for this small-budget film.

Director Suresh Palla took a unique concept, but the film isn’t engaging thoroughly. The way Prasad’s character is dealt is good, but the same is not the case when it comes to Rajesh’s part. Rajesh’s character throws a challenge to his friend, making the interval block interesting. But the payoff for it is disappointing. The same goes with a few other tracks as well, as the payoffs aren’t impactful.

Verdict:

On the whole, Krishna Ghattam is a different attempt, but the narrative isn’t entirely engaging. There are moments of brilliance, and the lead actors, Venkata Govada and Chaitanya Krishna, did a very fine job. However, consistency is missing in the screenplay, and the film becomes tedious at times. A few important portions needed better execution. The movie doesn’t have regular commercial elements, which might also limit its reach.
