The Telugu-dubbed version of the Tamil movie Miral (2022), starring ‘Premisthe’ Bharat and Vaani Bhojan in the lead roles, was released in cinemas today. Let’s read our review to find out how it is.

 

Story:

Rama (Vani Bhojan) is haunted by nightmares about her husband, Hari (Bharath), who narrowly escapes a workplace accident. Following her mother’s advice, Rama visits her hometown with Hari to perform some rituals to stop the bad omens. On the night of the ritual, Hari is urgently called back to the city. On their way back, the family encounters eerie events that mirror an incident that happened ten years ago in the village. What happened in the past? Will Hari and his family return safely? Discover the answers by watching the movie on the big screen.
 

Plus Points:

Premisthe Bharat shines in his role, especially during the quest scenes in the second half, effectively conveying emotions.

Vani Bhojan is fine in her performance, and the rest of the cast performs adequately. The cinematography adds some thrilling moments.

 

Minus Points:

The core plot of the movie is revealed only in the last 15 minutes, with the rest of the film feeling excessively stretched and tedious.

While the concept has potential, the poor screenplay makes it a dull experience. Scenes meant to be scary fail to deliver the intended fear.

The Telugu dubbing is particularly off-putting, with irritating voice work for the roles of Bharat to KS Ravi Kumar to Master Ankit. Many characters seem superfluous and add little to the story.

 

Technical Aspects:

As both writer and director, M. Sakthivel failed to make Miral an engaging horror thriller. The film lacks the necessary twists and turns to maintain interest until the climax.

S. N. Prasad’s score is passable but could have been better. Suresh Bala’s cinematography is decent, while R. Kalaivanan’s editing is just average. The lack of songs and a shorter runtime are the film’s saving graces.

 

Verdict:

On the whole, Miral fails to engage and ends up being a tedious watch. Despite Bharat’s nuanced performance, the unengaging story, weak screenplay, and poor dubbing make it hard to sit through. Save your money and seek out other entertainment options.
