In Tollywood, many young directors have tried to make films in the horror/thriller genre. But very few of them have succeeded. ‘Sahasra’ is one such film and newcomer Srivisal Kandukuri has directed it. Rajiv Kanakala and Krishnudu have essayed important roles in this movie along with some newcomers. PLN Raju has produced the movie and Geetha Punik has composed the music. The film has released today in AP, so let us see how it is.

Story :

Rudra Narasimha Raju (Rajiv Kanakala) is the overlord of the Chinthapalli Samsthanam and its surrounding villages. He has a beautiful wife named Mayukha. According the local customs, the King’s women are forbidden from appearing in public. But word of Mayukha’s beauty reaches Chinnappa (Shafi) and he decides to seduce her at any cost. With the help of an Aghora, Chinnappa learns black magic and practices his craft on Mayukha.

Unexpected things happen and the King and Queen are found dead. After a long time, Mayukha is reborn as Sahasra (Ira) and Chinnappa comes to know about this. He decides to seduce this lady and quench his desire.

What happens next? Will Sahasra succeed in evading Chinnappa? That forms the story.

Plus Points :

Rajiv Kanakala has done a good job as Narasimha Raju. Shafi is good as the evil Chinnappa. The art director deserves some credit for coming up with some really neat work Flora Saini’s item song has come out well.

Minus Points :

The first half of the film is a big minus. The director has tried to come up with some ‘horror’ scenes just to show that the film belongs to the horror/thriller genre. They do not work and they are not even connected to the main storyline.

The basic plot of the film has been lifted from ‘Arundhati’. The concept of afterlife and athmas has not been handled effectively. There are a number of loopholes in the screenplay. Entertainment quotient in the film is nearly zero.

None of the songs help the film in any way. The item song is totally unnecessary and it does not work. The VFX quality in the film is terrible and the visuals look quite cheap. Perhaps, TV serials use better quality VFX.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is just about ok. As said before, the art director deserves credit for his work. Background score is ok but the songs are bad and they do not help the film in any way. Dialogues are very average.

Direction is very poor and Srivisal Kandukuri shows no promising signs in his debut film.

Verdict :

‘Sahasra’ is a film that feels like an extremely poor quality freemake of ‘Arundhati’. You may safely stay away from this movie and save your time as well as money.
