Pradeep Ranganathan made a name for himself with the film Love Today which was a big hit in Telugu. He is back with yet another film titled Enter The Dragon. Anupama Parameswaran plays the female lead in this film which has been directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and has hit the screens today. Read our review here.

Story

Dragan(Pradeep Ranganath) is a college dropout who failed in 48 subjects. This is also the time when his girlfriend Keethy(Anupama Parameswaran) ditches him for good. To take revenge, he uses fake certificates and gets into a higher position. Just when is about to settle down in life with another girl(Kayadu Lohar), his principal comes back into the scene and challenges him to get to college and finish his studies failing which he would expose him and his career. Left with no choice, Dragon enters college again, and whether he succeeds in life and completes his studies, is the basic story of the film.

Plus Points

Ashwath Marimuthu, who directed Oh My Kadavule in Tamil, has helmed this film as well in Tamil. The Telugu version has been released with good hype and features a highly relatable subject that instantly connects with the youth. The film delivers a strong message that there are no shortcuts in life and that one must go through the grind to achieve a position. This message is presented in a highly engaging manner in the last half hour of the film.

The hero’s character, how he takes shortcuts in life, attains a position and marries the person of his choice—is well established. Just when you think the film is going bland in the first half, the interval bang keeps you engaged and is handled with great intensity. The fun factor in the film is limited, but when the comedic scenes unfold, they work well.

Pradeep Ranganathan once again delivers a solid performance. His appearance, tension-filled performance, and emotional expressions in the climax are commendable. Anupama Parameswaran plays a mature role and performs well, while Kayadu Lohar is impressive. Mysskin, the noted director, plays the college principal and is outstanding in his role.

The rest of the cast also delivers strong performances. One of the biggest highlights of the film is the college scenes showcased in the second half. The transformation of a fraudulent man as he changes his life and endures hardships is depicted effectively.

Minus Points

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is its slow pace and lengthy runtime. Director Ashwath takes too long to get to the actual point. There was no need to showcase in such detail how the hero fakes things and attains a higher position. Since so much time is spent on this, the actual emotional content is left with little time to be fully developed.

The first half lacks many standout moments as well. The love story between Anupama Parameswaran and Pradeep should have been given more depth. The film needs about fifteen minutes of trimming to improve its pacing. Additionally, there are no strong emotional moments between the hero and his approach to studies in the second half.

A more gripping second half with intense scenes could have made a world of difference. The film feels great in parts but contains numerous redundant scenes. One good scene is often followed by a lackluster one, diminishing its impact.

Technical Aspects

Leon James has composed the music, but the songs are not very impressive. Not a single song stands out, but the background score (BGM) is quite good. The Telugu dubbing is effective. The production values of the film are top-notch, and the dialogues are well-written. However, the editing is patchy and needs to be crisper.

Coming to the director, Ashwath Marimuthu has done just a passable job with the film. He narrates a very contemporary issue—how students take the wrong paths in life and face severe consequences. However, the conflict is stretched out with overly detailed narration, which is unnecessary. The comedy factor should have been elevated a bit more as well.

Verdict

On the whole, Return of the Dragan has a good subject which is dragged for no reason. The slow pace and lengthy runtime dominate the few good aspects of the film. If you ignore the above aspects and want to watch a youthful drama this weekend, give the film a shot but keep your expectations low.

After entertaining audiences with his unique comedic timing for the past two decades, popular comedian Dhanraj has now donned the director’s hat with the movie ‘Ramam Raghavam.’ Starring the versatile Samuthirakani and Dhanraj in lead roles, the film created a good buzz with its teaser and trailer. Check out our review to see if this movie has managed to captivate the audience.

Story:

Dasharatha Ramam (Samuthirakani), an honest officer at the Registrar’s Office, immensely loves his son Raghava (Dhanraj) and wants to see his son succeed in life. However, Raghava lacks focus on studies and wastes his time without a proper job. Raghava borrows money from his father to start a business but loses it all in betting. This creates a huge conflict between Ramam and Raghava, and the son plans to kill his father with the help of a truck driver. What prompts Raghava to take such a drastic step? Will the truck driver kill Ramam? You need to watch the movie on the big screen to know what unfolds next.

Plus Points:

Telugu movie lovers have seen numerous movies based on the father-son bond. Ramam Raghavam falls in this category. The film beautifully portrays the struggles of a concerned father due to his son’s behavior. Samuthirakani comes up with a remarkable performance in a role that perfectly suits him. Dhanraj, too, impresses as the irresponsible son.

The emotions in Ramam Raghavam will strike a chord with the audience. The father-son scenes are easy to relate to. The scenes that showcase Raghavam’s plans to kill his father are executed in a gripping manner. The twist in the second half will keep the audience engaged. The emotional scenes, particularly in the pre-climax and climax, will move the audience to tears. Dhanraj makes a good attempt at directing an emotional story that is so relatable.

Minus Points:

The movie takes its own sweet time to get into the core of the story. The first half feels routine and might leave the audience bored. The scenes that showcase Raghava’s failure to fulfill his father’s dreams in the beginning leave a lot to be desired. The first half feels lengthy, and director Dhanraj should have focused on the first half’s screenplay.

Dhanraj’s love track doesn’t click and lacks appeal. Surprisingly, even Sathya’s comedy doesn’t evoke laughter. Prithvi is okay in certain scenes. His character lacks depth, and it could have been developed better.

Additionally, the songs don’t add much value to the movie. Even the background score fails to create the desired impact. Even though the climax is emotional, the way it is executed could have been more engaging.

Technical Crew:

Dhanraj has done a decent job as a director on his debut, portraying the father-son bond in a slightly different way from other films. Durga Prasad Kolli’s realistic cinematography is commendable. While the songs composed by Arun Chiluveru don’t stand out, his background score does the job well. The production values are decent.

Verdict:

Ramam Raghavam is an emotional drama that engages the audience to an extent. Dhanraj’s attempt to portray the father-son bond in a novel manner is praiseworthy. However, the lack of interesting elements in the first half and the slow pace at several places test the audience’s patience. You may check out this emotional drama if you are a fan of slow-paced emotional dramas.

Thandel, the much-anticipated Telugu film starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, has finally arrived on the big screens worldwide. With soaring expectations, does this emotional saga deliver an unforgettable experience? Dive into our review to find out!

Story:

Raju (Naga Chaitanya), a fearless fisherman from Srikakulam, shares a deep and unbreakable bond with Satya (Sai Pallavi). Their love is pure and unwavering, but their lives take a dramatic turn when Raju is honored with the title of Thandel (Leader) among his people. Concerned for his safety, Satya urges him to give up fishing forever. Despite her warnings, Raju sets out to sea, unknowingly drifting into Pakistani waters. This unfortunate mistake lands him and his crew in a Pakistani jail, turning their lives upside down. Will Raju and his men find a way back home? Can love withstand the test of distance, struggle, and uncertainty? The answers unfold in Thandel, a gripping tale of love, sacrifice, and resilience.

Plus Points:

Thandel beautifully proves that a simple love story, when told with strong emotions, can leave a lasting impact. The film seamlessly blends love, longing, sadness, and patriotism, making it an engaging watch.

After a long time, Naga Chaitanya delivers a performance that truly stands out. His transformation into the character is remarkable, and his effortless mastery of the Srikakulam accent adds authenticity, making it a delightful aspect of the film.

Sai Pallavi, as expected, shines yet again. Her expressive performance adds depth to the narrative, making her love and emotions for Raju feel incredibly real. The chemistry between Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi is one of the film’s biggest strengths, bringing a unique charm to their romance.

Devi Sri Prasad’s music is a revelation. For those who doubted his recent work, Thandel serves as a reminder of his brilliance. His compositions breathe life into the film, elevating key moments with soul-stirring tracks. The songs are not just well-composed but also perfectly placed, enhancing the emotional depth of the narrative.

Minus Points:

While Thandel tells a heartfelt love story, certain sequences feel repetitive, causing slight disconnects in the narrative. A bit more variation in the screenplay could have made the journey even more immersive.

The Pakistan jail portions, though impactful, could have been executed with greater intensity. While the intent is strong, some moments lack the punch needed to evoke powerful patriotic emotions. A stronger infusion of stirring dialogues could have amplified the impact, leaving audiences with a lasting impression.

Although the runtime is reasonable, a few scenes tend to drag, slightly affecting the film’s pacing. A tighter edit would have ensured a more gripping experience.

Technical Aspects:

Director Chandoo Mondeti deserves appreciation for crafting an emotionally resonant love story. He sensitively captures pain, longing, and patriotism, making the emotional beats land effectively. However, a bit more finesse in writing and execution could have enhanced certain scenes.

Devi Sri Prasad’s background score plays a crucial role in uplifting the film, making every emotional moment even more powerful. Shamdat Sainudeen’s cinematography is another major highlight, offering breathtaking visuals that enrich the storytelling.

The dialogues are well-written, with a few standing out memorably. Naveen Nooli’s editing is decent, but a few trims here and there would have helped maintain a tighter grip on the narrative. Production values are commendable, adding to the film’s overall appeal.

Verdict:

On the whole, Thandel is a deeply emotional love story interwoven with patriotic elements. Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi deliver stellar performances, their chemistry serving as the film’s soul. Devi Sri Prasad’s music elevates the experience, making the emotional moments even more impactful. Though the film has minor drawbacks, such as occasional repetition and a few underwhelming moments in the jail sequences, its strong emotions and heartfelt storytelling make it worth watching. If you enjoy love stories with depth, Thandel is a film that will touch your heart.
