Team India has won the 2026 T20 World Cup! Playing in front of a massive home crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India defeated New Zealand by a huge 96 runs in the final match.

A Record-Breaking Batting Performance

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first, but the Indian batters completely took over the game. They scored a massive 255 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs. This set a new record for the highest total ever posted in a T20 World Cup final.

Openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma hit boundaries all around the ground. Samson scored 89 runs off just 46 balls. Abhishek Sharma reached his half-century in only 18 balls, making it the fastest fifty of the tournament. In the middle overs, Ishan Kishan kept up the momentum with 54 runs off 25 balls, and Shivam Dube finished the innings with some quick runs.

Bowlers Shut Down New Zealand

Facing a tough target of 256, New Zealand struggled right from the start. The Indian bowlers gave them no chance to build momentum. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah bowled a magical spell, taking 4 wickets while giving up only 13 runs. Spinner Axar Patel also did serious damage, taking 3 wickets.

New Zealand were bowled out for just 159 runs in 19 overs. Only their captain, Mitchell Santner (43 runs), and Tim Seifert (52 runs) managed to score well.

With this massive victory, Suryakumar Yadav joins an elite list of Indian World Cup-winning captains that includes MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, and Rohit Sharma. This marks the third time India has won the T20 World Cup overall.
