Dhanush has once again collaborated with Bollywood director Aanand L Rai for the romantic drama Tere Ishk Mein. The film, starring Kriti Sanon as the female lead, hit the big screens today, amid good buzz. Let’s see how the movie is.

Story:

Shankar Gurukkal (Dhanush) is an extremely violent college student with severe anger issues. Mukti Behniwaal (Kriti Sanon), who attends the same college, keeps working hard to earn her PhD. She works on a thesis according to which any violent human can be turned into a normal person through certain experiments and treatment. Mukti decides to reform Shankar to prove her thesis correct, and this leads to a series of complicated events, changing their lives forever in unexpected ways.

Plus Points:

The lead pair did a fabulous job, and they are the biggest assets of Tere Ishk Mein. As an angry young man, Dhanush delivered a phenomenal performance. The initial portions of the movie focus on establishing the hero’s aggressive characterization, which also gets problematic at times, but the approach is clear, and the proceedings draw our interest.

The first half is also packed with enough fun moments, and the mix of humor and love scenes makes things fairly engaging. Kriti Sanon is turning out to be one of the finest actresses in Indian cinema, and the National Award winner has once again left a strong impact with her portrayal. She displayed multiple emotions superbly and is the mainstay of the movie.

The Tamil track that comes towards the interval is fun to watch, showcasing the bond between Dhanush and his father, played by Prakash Raj. The versatile actor lent good support and left his mark in some moments.

Minus Points:

While the start is good, the same cannot be said about the second half, as this is where the problems begin, and the film starts to slip away. Things get way too complicated, and the plot turns totally confusing.
The intentions of the characters remain unclear, and their actions go to extreme lengths that are intended to destroy themselves. Director Aanand L Rai has increased the intensity levels compared to his previous outings, and his presentation of the complex nature of the lead characters and their self-destructive traits might not sit well with everyone.

The proceedings also become unengaging in the latter half, and the film feels stretched after a point. The war backdrop doesn’t bring much impact and remains merely functional. The priest character makes the goings-on even more convoluted. The final moments make some sense, but by then, the film loses the momentum created in the initial hour.

Technical Aspects:

AR Rahman’s songs and background score are beautiful, but the most popular Tere Ishk Mein track isn’t fully shown in the film, and this is surely an element of disappointment. Tushar Kanti’s cinematography is appealing, while the editing leaves a lot to be desired.

Director Aanand L Rai chose a subject where the lead characters operate on extremes, but the second half fails to carry forward the rhythm built in the first half due to its excessive complexity. The performances are no doubt brilliant, but the narrative doesn’t justify them as the film progresses.

Verdict:

On the whole, Tere Ishk Mein aspires to be an intense love story and attempts to offer a different experience compared to regular love stories, but the narrative isn’t entirely effective. The first half is engaging, and Dhanush and Kriti Sanon deliver solid performances, but the second half becomes overly complicated and confused, bringing down the impact. The film feels dragged after a point, and as the characters’ motives become unclear for the most part in the second half, the overall viewing experience falls short of being satisfactory.

Kriti Sanon selfie with Kabir Bahia

Bollywood glam queen Kriti Sanon, last seen in Do Patti, recently wrapped up filming Tere Ishk Mein opposite Dhanush. But it’s not just her professional milestones that have fans buzzing, her personal life is making waves too.

Kriti has become the center of attention on social media amid growing dating rumours with Kabir Bahia, a UK-born businessman. The speculation gained fresh momentum after the two were spotted at London’s iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 14, 2025, cheering for Team India during the third Test match.

They looked striking in matching outfits, sharing warm moments and even posing for a sweet selfie that Kabir posted on Instagram Story, tagging Kriti in the frame.

Though neither Kriti nor Kabir has commented on the buzz, fans can’t help but wonder what’s brewing between them. With public appearances becoming more frequent, it might only be a matter of time before they break their silence.
