After a gap of nearly a year, Gram Chikitsalay Season 2 arrives with a new challenge for Dr. Prabhat Sinha and his team. Created by TVF for Amazon Prime Video, the Hindi-language series is now streaming. Has the new season improved on the shortcomings of its predecessor? Let’s find out.

Story:

Having adapted to life in Bhatkandi village and its people’s mindset, Dr. Prabhat Sinha (Amol Parashar) continues to struggle with low patient turnout and a shortage of medicines at the PHC. He soon learns that winning the Ideal PHC Award could secure the resources the centre desperately needs. Determined to achieve the goal, Prabhat sets out to transform the PHC, only to face a new condition that threatens his plans. What is this condition, and can he overcome the challenges that follow? The series reveals the answers.

Plus Points:

Whether the makers took audience feedback into account or simply refined their approach, Season 2 is a noticeable improvement over its predecessor. The central conflict is more interesting, the narrative feels more focused, and the overall content works better than what the first season offered.

Amol Parashar maintains consistency in the lead role and shows slight improvement compared to the previous season. Anandeshwar Dwivedi as Phutani and Akash Makhija as Gobind once again emerge as the major strengths of the series, delivering several entertaining moments through their comic timing. Gobind’s subplot, centred on his desire for a permanent job and marriage, is among the better-written portions of the season, with Akash Makhija handling the character’s emotional conflict with sincerity and conviction.

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor as Dr. Gargi has limited screen presence and therefore doesn’t get much scope to showcase her abilities. Vinay Pathak is dependable as Dr. Chetak Kumar, while Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua) is adequate as Babu Saheb.

The final episode deserves special mention. While not every emotional beat lands perfectly, it still delivers a few heartfelt moments, particularly through Moushami Bharti’s character, and provides the season with a satisfying conclusion.

Minus Points:

The biggest drawback of the season is its pacing. Despite having only five episodes with runtimes of around 30–40 minutes each, the narrative often feels stretched. The core conflict is decent enough on its own, making the slow storytelling feel unnecessary.

The Ideal PHC Award storyline gives the season a stronger purpose, but the sluggish narration frequently dilutes its impact. Several supporting characters, particularly Gargi and Babu Saheb, are given emotional moments, yet their arcs lack the depth needed for those scenes to leave a stronger impression.

The makers seem keen on maintaining a light-hearted tone throughout, which works for the most part. However, the background score often signals emotions before the scenes are allowed to create them naturally.

Similarly, the subplot involving Dr. Chetak Kumar’s daughter feels underexplored and ultimately comes across as a missed opportunity. While the writing succeeds in making the season better than its predecessor, several emotional moments could have carried greater weight with deeper character development and tighter execution.

Technical Aspects:

Director Lalitam Anand handles the direction competently and keeps the series accessible throughout. The writing team, including Vaibhav Suman and Shreya Srivastava, improves upon the foundation laid in the first season by presenting a more focused narrative. However, the screenplay still struggles with pacing issues and occasionally falls short of fully exploring its emotional and character-driven moments.

Girish Kant’s cinematography is satisfactory and captures the rural setting effectively. Rohit Sharma’s music complements the narrative reasonably well. The editing by Chandrashekhar Prajapati is arguably the weakest technical aspect of the season. A tighter edit could have significantly improved the viewing experience and made the series more engaging. The production values remain decent throughout.

Verdict:

On the whole, Gram Chikitsalay Season 2 is an improvement over the first season, thanks to a better central conflict and a few commendable performances. While the finale and certain emotional moments work to an extent, the persistently slow pacing and underdeveloped supporting arcs prevent the series from making a stronger impact. With tighter writing and sharper execution, it could have been a far better watch. Give it a try only if you have the patience for a slow-burn rural drama and are willing to overlook its shortcomings.

Gram Chikitsalay is the latest Hindi web series created by The TVF Media for Amazon Prime Video. As it comes from the makers of the hugely popular Panchayat series, it naturally carries decent expectations. But does it meet them? Let’s find out in our review.

Story:

Dr. Prabhat Sinha (Amol Parashar), a young and talented doctor from Delhi, has been appointed as the medical officer at an abandoned PHC in the village of Bhatkandi. Weeks pass with no patients visiting, and his staff remains uncooperative. The series follows whether Dr. Prabhat can treat at least one patient and gain the villagers’ trust.

Plus Points:

The rural setting immediately feels familiar, reminiscent of Panchayat, and sets the stage for a slice-of-life story.

Amol Parashar fits his role well and performs fine. He is supported by Anandeshwar Dwivedi and Akash Makhija, who add depth to the story. Garima Vikrant Singh’s portrayal of Indu, a significant character, is another strong point, handled with sincerity.

Minus Points:

While director Rahul Pandey starts off with promise, the direction soon becomes sluggish, and the story loses its direction. Creators Deepak Kumar Mishra and Arunabh Kumar, who succeeded with Panchayat, fail to recapture that magic here. The writing by Vaibhav and Shreya feels weak, and the dialogues lack impact, making the story feel flat.

Though the series tries to bring in emotion, it arrives too late to resonate, leaving the audience already disengaged. The first two episodes hold promise, but by the end, the storyline shifts in a way that feels disconnected.

Akansha Ranjan’s presence is wasted, as her scenes offer little substance, especially compared to Vinay Pathak, who plays another doctor and ends up having more of a presence. These casting choices don’t help elevate the show.

Technical Aspects:

Visually, the series does well to capture the rural atmosphere, providing an authentic feel. The score is adequate but unremarkable. However, the editing is a major flaw. The pacing is slow, and despite the shorter runtime, the series feels stretched due to its meandering storyline. Director Rahul Pandey’s handling of the material could have been stronger, as the lack of tight narrative control further weakens the show.

Verdict:

On the whole, Gram Chikitsalay falls short of expectations, ultimately becoming a tedious watch. While the setting and performances show promise, the weak writing, lackluster direction, and uneven execution make it a forgettable experience. If you’re looking for something entertaining, this one may not be the right pick.

So, continuing the series of reviewing movies and shows during the lockdown period, our today’s pick is the Hindi web series Special OPS. The show is available on Disney-Hotstar and let’s see how it is.

What’s it about

Himmat Singh(KK Menon) is a RAW officer who feels that there is a sixth terrorist behind the Indian parliament attacks that happened in 2001. All the five were killed but Himmat feels that there is a sixth person and for this, he forms a team of five who are undercover all over the world to track this attack. The series is an espionage thriller based on the Indian government’s acts to catch this terrorist and how all this unravels is the basic story of this web series.

What’s good?

KK Menon is a terrific actor and he proves it once again with this series as he is amazing as the RAW office who masterminds the search operations. The series is co-written by star director Neeraj Pandey and he sets the story well in various countries. The initial episode is good as it shows how the governments deal with such situations. The last three episodes are quite racy and have the needed twists of an espionage thriller.

The way secret agents live their life and how they go to any extent for the country has been showcased well. The production values of the show are top-notch and create a good watching experience. Karan Tacker does a fine job as agent Farooq and looks dashing throughout the series. The detailing gone into this thriller is quite good

What’s bad?

After an interesting first episode, the story dips in the next three episodes. Too much time is wasted in the backstories of KK Menon which has no connection to the story at all. The story is dragged to no extent and many logical errors keep erupting in. The chemistry between Karan Tacker and Sana just buzzes out and doesn’t appeal much to the viewers.

The transition between the past and present isn’t swift enough as the screenplay is not that gripping. Neeraj Pandey, who is a master with thriller does not get it completely right with his writing here as it has many loopholes.

Final Word

Overall, Special OPS is an espionage thriller from the production of noted director Neeraj Pandey. His story has a decent premise and good performances but the dull narration in the middle episodes keeps you bored. If you sit through this, the last three episodes are quite gripping and have good twists and still make up a decent watch.
