Review : Anthaka Mundu Aa Tarvatha – Warm and Mature Love Story

Award winning director Indraganti Mohan Krishna has come up with this new age love story, ‘Anthaka Mundu Aa Tarvatha’. Sumanth Ashwin and Eesha are the lead actors in this movie and K.L.Damodara Prasad has produced it. Let us see how AMAT is.

Story :

Anil (Sumanth Ashwin) is a guy who does not want to settle for an arranged marriage. His mom (Rohini) is keen to get him married and he decides to push off to Hyderabad, to escape from the pressure. He has the support of his father (Rao Ramesh).

In Hyderabad, he comes across Ananya (Eesha) and falls for her. Ananya is a painter and greeting cards designer and she works for Latha (Jhansi). Anil starts wooing Ananya and she falls for his romantic charms. But Ananya is a little apprehensive about taking the relationship further. Her parents (Ravi Babu and Madhubala) keep having arguments and this worries her.

Anil also has similar worries. “What if our relationship becomes boring and mundane after marriage?” is the question on their minds. They decide to have a secret live-in relationship, to see if they have good compatibility.

The pressures of daily life start taking a toll on the relationship. Fights and arguments crop up. Unexpected emotional demands are made on the couple. Will their love survive? Can they take it to the next level? Most importantly, will their parents approve?

That is the story of ‘Anthaka Mundu Aa Tarvatha’.

Plus Points :

Sumanth Ashwin has done a good job in the movie. He has improved quite a lot compared to his first film. For a guy who is just one film old, he has shown a lot of maturity in the emotional sequences. If he plays his cards right, Sumanth will be a promising young hero. He is also a good dancer. Eesha has given a good performance. Her beauty is of the ‘girl next door’ kind and that is what is needed for the character.

Rohini and Rao Ramesh have come up with a restrained and classy performance. Their performance in the climax sequence is very crucial for the film. Veteran actress Madhubala looks good. Ravi Babu and Jhansi have done a good job.

Srinivas Avasarala’s one liners are entertaining. He has good timing. There is another guy who appears as Rajesh, in Sumanth Ashwin’s office. His one liners rock and he has potential as a comedian.

The first half of the film is very nice. The love story between Sumanth and Eesha has been handled beautifully by the director. There is tenderness and emotion in the track. Witty dialogues and good chemistry add to the feel good factor. The romantic sequences have a welcome freshness about them.

The emotional climax sequence redeems the second half to a large extent. Sensitive issues like personal space, adjustment after marriage, career aspirations of women etc have been handled in a mature way.

Minus Points :

The film nose dives in the second half, immediately after the interval. The freshness and the magic of the first half is missing here and mundane scenes keep coming in one after the other. There is needless melodrama. The actors start getting hyper and break out into spontaneous arguments, without proper emotional justification.

There are loopholes in the narration. When a daughter decides to live in with a guy, in secret, for a few months, won’t the parents know about it? What did she tell them? What reason did she give, for staying out of the house? That part has not been explained convincingly.

Sumanth Ashwin starts off as a flower supplier. He talks about joining Eesha as a business partner. He then opens one office, which looks like an IT company. What exactly is his business? How is it running? That part has not been explained clearly. The sequence where Jhansi leaves her baby with Sumanth and Eesha is a bit superficial.

Technical Aspects :

P.G.Vinda’s cinematography is nice and adds to the feel good factor of the film. Koduri Kalyani Malik’s music is nice and his background score has really helped the film. Editing could have been a lot better in the second half of the movie.

Mohana Krishna Indraganti’s dialogues are excellent. He has done a superb job with the first half, but his hold on the plot slackened in the second half. He redeems himself with his handling of the climax sequence.

Verdict :

‘Anthaka Mundu Aa Tarvatha’ is a clean, thoughtful and warm love story. There is a lot of tenderness in the first half and youngsters will connect to it well. The movie is not without its flaws. But classy performances, witty dialogues and some thought provoking sequences end up making AMAT a good watch. At the Box Office, the film’s appeal may be limited to multiplexes.
