The ongoing tussle between the producers councils of the South Indian film industry and Digital Service Providers (DSP) over the exorbitant Virtual Print Fee (VPF) is yet to subside. The producers councils have already issued an ultimatum, saying that no new movies will be released across South India starting from March 1, if the DSPs don’t reduce the VPF.
On February 16, the JAC of the South Indian film industry held talks with the various DSPs in Chennai. However, the talks didn’t yield any positive outcome and both the parties have decided to meet once again on February 23.
Meanwhile, the producers councils are firm on their decision of not releasing any new film from March 1 until further notice. This will impact a lot of small and high budget movies from Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada film industries. In this scenario, all eyes are on the February 23 meeting.
