Few days ago, we had reported that a new initiative named VOW – Voice of Women – has been initiated by Telugu film industry to safeguard women from sexual harassment and to change the way the industry treats women in various crafts. Now, Tamil film industry too has taken a cue from the growing voices within the industry to set up a framework to address issues related to women’s safety and better working conditions.
In a letter addressed to the entire Tamil film fraternity, Nadigar Sangam issued a letter saying, “To protect women from sexual harassment and abuses from shooting spots and stages, and to make women feel comfortable in the field, Nadigar Sangam will take necessary actions. The association will also form a committee to monitor such sexual harassment issues.”
For the past few days, Chinmayi, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Lakshmi Ramakrishnan and few others have been spearheading the MeToo movement in Kollywood. There have been multiple allegations of misconduct on Vairamuthu; however, no action has been taken against the lyricist.
