Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has been laid to rest with a 24 gun salute as part of the full state honours. The last rites were performed at Balu’s SPB Gardens farmhouse on Chennai outskirts this afternoon. SPB’s son SP Charan performed the last rites as per the Shrauta Shaiva tradition.
Meanwhile, popular global news channel BBC aired a special 4 minute report on Balu’s legacy and demise. The channel hailed Balu as one of the most famous film music icons of India, and discussed what Balu’s loss would mean to the country. Balu is one of the very few Indian artistes who have been featured on the BBC in recent years.
