Karthi’s latest outing, Vaa Vaathiyaar a.k.a Annagaru Vostaru, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, has turned out to be a disaster of epic proportions. Just two weeks after its theatrical release, the film premiered on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.
To understand how big a flop Vaa Vaathiyaar is, one needs to look at its Tamil Nadu box office performance. The action-comedy managed to collect just a little over Rs. 10 crores gross in its entire run in the state, which is extremely low for a film headlined by a noted star like Karthi.
Adding to the shock, Vaa Vaathiyaar was pulled out of theatres across Tamil Nadu within a week of its release. The dismal box office performance seems to have forced the Vaa Vaathiyaar makers to opt for an early digital release in order to minimize losses. Krithi Shetty played the female lead.
