After facing release hurdles yesterday, Suriya’s Karuppu finally made it to the big screens this morning. Fans who had been patiently waiting stormed into theatres, resulting in a solid opening across Tamil Nadu.

Karuppu registered the record as the all-time 4th biggest Tamil film on BookMyShow by selling over 40K tickets per hour (Tamil + Telugu). The only films ahead of Karuppu are Leo, Coolie, and Jailer. It remains to be seen how the Telugu version fares.

Directed by RJ Balaji and produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the movie stars Trisha Krishnan, Indrans, Natty, Swasika, Anagha Maaya, and others in crucial roles. Sai Abyankkar composed the tunes.
