SS Rajamouli recently attended the 50th São Paulo International Film Festival, also known as Mostra de São Paulo. This was his first-ever visit to Brazil. During his interaction with the audience, Rajamouli stated that Varanasi, headlined by Mahesh Babu, is five to six times bigger in scale than his historical epic RRR. He further revealed an interesting detail about Varanasi’s shoot.
“I did a lot more paperwork on Varanasi, going into filming even more prepared. We shot RRR in 315 days and Varanasi, despite being bigger, in 275 days, saving 40 days,” said the master storyteller.
Rajamouli further revealed that he is planning a massive worldwide theatrical release for Varanasi. He wants the whole world to experience his globetrotting adventure on the big screen, unlike RRR, which went straight to streaming in Brazil. The big-ticket film, produced by KL Narayana’s Durga Arts, also features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra in pivotal roles.
