Interview : Akhil Akkineni – Agent is not completely driven by the hero’s character

Akhil Akkineni’s spy action thriller Agent is all set to create a storm in theatres from 28th April. The movie, directed by Surender Reddy, has Mammootty in an important role. Sakshi Vaidya is the female lead, and Ramabrahmam Sunkara produced Agent under AK Entertainments and Surender 2 Cinema. Hip Hop Tamizha scored the tunes. Ahead of the release, Akhil participated in a press interview today, and here is the transcript.

 

How did Agent journey start?

It all started during the first lockdown. I like action movies and wanted to do one such film on a large scale. I was not getting that complete satisfaction till Most Eligible Bachelor (I am not demeaning other films). Most Eligible Bachelor gave me more acceptance in the audience, but I badly wanted to do an action flick. When I was retrospecting myself, Surender Reddy met me. But at the same time, I want to do something fresh, and that’s why I chose a spy genre film.

 

What were your thoughts when Surender Reddy narrated you Agent’s plot?

I liked the genre completely. But I had a doubt about myself whether I could perform in a crazy manner. Because I haven’t done something like this before. I did more subtle acting. My character in Agent should behave like a monkey which means it should be lively and spirited. I had a lot of inhibitions while performing in torture sequences.

 

Do you feel that you and Surender Reddy Garu could have done something to avoid this last-minute rush?

As a team, we should have finished the movie a little earlier. We wanted to have a song as it was very much necessary for the film, and we felt the song would make the film even more stylish. So it took us a while.

 

What is that unique thing in the film that audiences will witness in the film?

I don’t think the budget is unique for a film. The weight of each character will be strong in the movie. After release, you will understand why we have made Mammootty sir to be part of our project. Agent is not completely driven by the hero’s character. There will be an intense drama between the three characters, and more importantly, every character will have respect. Agent will give a new experience to the audience involving international spy problems.

 

What was your reaction when you heard the release date? Since industry hits like Adavi Ramudu, Baahubali, and Pokiri were released on April 28.

Baahubali 2 and Pokiri are my all-time favorite films. I generally don’t have any sentiments about the release date. When I heard about the release date, I was very happy. I would have watched Pokiri 50 times, and the same is the case with Baahubali 2. It’s like a blessing for me since Agent is also releasing on 28th April.

 

Did you take any suggestions from Nagarjuna Garu after listening to the script?

To be frank, I didn’t share the script with my dad. I shared in bits and pieces. I want to make my own decisions and attribute the credits for success and failure to myself. If I depend on my father for everything, when will I grow as a person? I might be correct or wrong. But this is the path I have chosen. I still take suggestions since he is an encyclopedia to me. But I don’t ask him if I should do a particular script.
