Interview : Gopichand – I don’t have much choice as an actor
Published on Jul 4, 2018 12:26 pm IST

Action hero, Gopichand is ready with his next film Pantham which releases tomorrow. On this occasion, we met up with him for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.

How did this project materialize?

When Chakri came up with the script, I was not keen to listen to it. Reluctantly, I sat and heard the story and was very much impressed by the end of the narration. The only doubt I had was whether he would re-create what all he said on the screen in a proper way. After a few days of the shoot, I was very much impressed by the visuals I saw and there was no looking back since then.

What is the film all about?

We have dealt with a very relevant ongoing social problem which is happening all over the country currently. How a man who always wants others to see others happy gets involved in a case and solves things in his own way.

Did the debutante do justice to the script?

Many of my films had good stories but were spoilt by the execution. So, I had a small fear somewhere how will Chakri handle the film. But he has done a good job with his direction and has made the film in an impressive manner. His grip over the social cause is very good as he had done a lot of homework which helped us in a big way.

When you know that debutante spoilt many of your films, why did you give chance to another one?

I have never done a bad film as all the scripts were very good on paper but when it comes to the execution part, things failed sometimes. Most of the times, you come to know this only after a few days into the shoot. But by then, it is too late and I only try to minimize the damage caused but the films end up as flops.

Tell us about your producer Radha Mohan?

Even he had a doubt, why I wanted to work with a new director again. But when he heard the story, he was convinced and decided to spend a lot of money which was required for the film.

How have you changed as an actor in all your 25 years?

With each passing film, I am changing completely as an actor. I am learning from all my directors as they have been of great help all these years. This is also the reason I called all my directors of my previous films and paid my respects to them.

Finally, are you not tired of doing the same old films time and again?

This question is being asked a lot to me these days. For me to do different films, directors should approach me first with good stories first. My choices are limited and I choose from the best I get. In my regard, I am game for different films and am waiting for that correct role which will take my career to the next level.
