Young talent Naga Shaurya will be the next feature in the movie Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammai. Srinivas Avasarala is directing this rom-com. Malvika Nair is playing the female lead. Produced by People Media Factory in association with Dasari Productions, the film releases on March 17. Ahead of the release, we had a brief interaction with the film’s music composer Kalyani Malik, and here is the transcript.

Could you tell us a few words about your journey?

I had hits and misses in my career. After the failure of Check, a gap in my career arose due to Covid and other reasons. However, I got back on track with the films Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi, Intinti Ramanayam, Vidyavaasula Aham, and two web shows. These made me think that I have got more in my career. In particular, the song Kanula Chaatu Meghama gave me a new lease of life.

You didn’t taste success even after composing memorable songs. What’s your take on this?

I can’t answer that question. My career and life haven’t gone according to my plan, and I have concentrated just on my work. Customer satisfaction is all that matters to me, and I ensure that my directors are satisfied with my work. I will complete 20 years in the industry by this March. I have seen ups and downs. Even for films that didn’t perform well, I received appreciation.

How’s your working experience with Srinivasa Avasarala?

It is great to collaborate with Srinivas Avasarala. I wasn’t the first choice for Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi. One song was scored by Vivek Sagar. I worked on the other songs. Both Srinivas and Vivek approached me, and I consider myself lucky working on this project.

Comment on your journey as a singer.

I feel people don’t ask me to sing. Sunitha got an award for the song Em Sandeham, but I didn’t receive any. That made me disappointed. I became very unhappy. But as I said, the show must go on, and I moved on with my career.

Comment about being active on Twitter.

I am pleased with the appreciation that I receive for my work on Twitter. I do share about food too. A few times, I share songs scored by other music directors. I will use different user names to avoid online trolling.

Do you expect to score for a SS Rajamouli film in the future?

SS Rajamouli will always prefer MM Keeravani for his films, and there is no chance of replacement. The same is the case with Sukumar and Devi Sri Prasad, as they are a perfect match. I never thought of collaborating with Rajamouli.
