Published on May 5, 2019 12:01 am IST

Mahesh Babu is busy promoting his latest film Maharshi. As the film is ready for a release on the 9th of this month, we caught up with the star himself for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.

About similarities with Srimanthudu?

Even I am aware of it. But you need to watch the film for yourself and then you will come to know what the exact similarities are. Both the stories are entirely different.

What made you say yes to this film?

Vamsi narrated me this film for 40 minutes and I was hooked to his idea and my character. But I didn’t have dates and asked Vamsi to wait. He waited two years for me and Maharshi became my 25th film.

What’s special about Maharshi?

Maharshi has a peculiar and strong point. It has been narrated on an emotional note and will directly affect society too. Now, how it will do and what will be the later effects will be known only after the film releases.

The biggest challenge while doing Maharshi?

Pulling off the college student’s role was very difficult. Right from the body language, dialogues, and looks I had to work very hard for that. I had many apprehensions doing that part but with Vamsi’s support I pulled it off.

Best moment in your 25 film career?

My dad watched the first-day first show of Murari in Sudarshan theater in Hyderabad. Once the screening was over, he put his hand on my shoulder and gave an emotional smile. That is the best moment of my career to date.

Did your dad watch the film?

Yes, he did and is very happy with the way the film has shaped up. He is a very honest critic of mine and never hides anything. With Maharshi, he is very happy.

Why did you reject Sukumar’s story?

Post-Rangasthalam, I was expecting an entertaining story from Sukumar but he narrated an intense script. Things did not work out and that is the reason I accepted Anil Ravipudi’s film which I will announce soon.

Why don’t you encourage new talent?

It is false news that I do not encourage new talent. No one has approached me yet with their scripts. I am dying to do new age cinema and am waiting for the right script.

About Production?

I am currently producing a web series. Very soon, I will also produce low budget films. I am in the lookout of such subjects from youngsters. I won’t act in them and will only produce.

Why are you not doing multi-starrers?

Post-Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, I was not offered any multi-starrers. I would love to do a multi-starrer any time and am very much interested to act with the likes of NTR, Ram Charan and many others.

Future projects?

I am in talks for a project with Rajamouli garu. Discussions are on and everything will be announced when the time is right.
