Swathimuthyam, starring debutant Ganesh and Varsha Bollamma, is set to release on October 5, marking the Dusshera festival. Billed to be a clean family entertainer, the film is written and directed by Lakshman K Krishna. S Naga Vamsi bankrolls it under Sithara Entertainments in association with Fortune Four Cinemas. We met with the producer for a brief interview ahead of the film’s release. Here is the transcript.

Could you talk about expectations around Swathimuthyam?

I wouldn’t say we have made a classic or an out-of-the-world movie. But, we made an entertaining film that the audience can enjoy this festive season. Director came up with a unique yet connectable film for family audiences. It deals with sperm donation and explains why it shouldn’t be considered taboo. Multiple films will do well during the festivals, and there is no wrong in taking the risk. It is appreciable that Chiranjeevi Garu asked audiences to watch our movie too.

What’s your take on introducing new directors and Lakshman for this movie?

This generation of directors doesn’t panic, and they make the films how they wanted to. Lashman holds good command over the script, and we made a few changes from our end to get a good result. I can guarantee that audiences will come out of the theatres with a smile. Though Lakshman is new, he went with a solid technical team and handled the responsibility well.

What’s the reason behind the title Swathimuthyam?

We thought of using a classic title like Swathimuthyam so that people would get talking about our film and help us with the promotions. But once after watching the movie, you feel that this is the best-suited one for this story. Unlike most youngsters today, the youngster in the film isn’t any fool, but he’s innocent, good-at-heart. The film is about a guy dealing with a strange problem.

About alternating between big and small films?

We went ahead with concept-oriented films during the lockdown. Hence you got to see a Varudu Kavalenu, DJ Tillu, Swathimuthyam, or a Butta Bomma. Most of them worked well for us. There will only be massive releases and entertainers from hereon from our banner. We have movies with Mahesh Babu, Balakrishna, and Ravi Teja and films like DJ Tillu 2 and Naveen Polishetty’s Anaganaga Oka Raju.

Tell us about the SSMB 28 film?

I always felt that Mahesh Babu-Trivikram’s earlier collaborations, like Athadu and Khaleja, didn’t get their due at the theatres. Still, audiences loved the films to the core when they watched them on television. You can call it confidence or over-confidence; SSMB 28 will surpass all expectations that anyone will have about it. Mahesh Babu’s character will be unlike anything that you’ve seen before.

About the plan to host premieres for Swathimuthyam ahead of release?

We plan to organize premieres across many centers in Telugu states on October 4. We want the word to spread through the media that it’s a good film so that it’ll help our cause the next day.
