Rang De starring Nithiin and Keerthy Suresh in the lead roles, is releasing tomorrow. The film is written and directed by Venky Atluri. On this occasion, we caught up with him for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.
What’s the idea behind making Rang De?
After ‘Tholi Prema and Mr. Majnu, I wanted to do a cute family entertainer. Just when I was thinking about a neighbour boy and girl romance, the characters of Arjun and Anu hit my mind. More than the romantic angle, this film will be high on emotions.
What made you choose Nithin for this film?
To be frank, Nithiin was not the first choice for ‘Rang De. While penning the script, I had a couple of heroes in mind. But when Sithara Entertainments came forward to bankroll this movie, producer Naga Vamsi suggested Nithiin’s name. I had my doubts whether Nithiin would accept my script. But to my surprise, he gave the nod in a single sitting.
Working with Keerthy Suresh?
Even before Miss India, Penguin and Good Luck Sakhi, I approached Keerthy for Rang De. She was the only choice for the role and has given a solid performance and will be so much fun to watch.
Working with the likes of PC Sreeram?
To work with such a legend is a huge opportunity. Because of PC Sreeram, we were able to wrap up the shooting in just 64 days. Being a director, I learned a lot from him and his visuals are one of the assets of the film.
About DSP’s music?
Rang De’s music is already a big hit and DSP should be given the credit for it. He gave his best for the rerecording and his score is a big plus for this film.
A word about the producers?
The producers did not compromise on the film at all. We were supposed to shoot in Italy but due to lockdown we could not go there. So I decided to complete the shooting in Hyderabad but producer changed the plans and we shot in Dubai. The lavish visuals are an example of their uncompromising production values.
Venky revealed that he would be doing a film each in Sithara Entertainments and ‘Dil’ Raju banner in the days to come.
