Any list of ‘greatest Telugu films ever made’ is incomplete without the evergreen classic ‘Gundamma Katha’. The film is one of the most iconic offerings to have ever come out of the Telugu Film Industry. If Legendary actors NTR and ANR are the pillars of the film, veteran actress Suryakantham is the base that supported them so effectively. Their brilliance is complemented ably by the genius of stalwarts like S.V.Ranga Rao, Savitri and Jamuna.
The movie released on June 7th 1962 and went on to create Box Office History. The movie was the 100th film for NTR and earned him the distinction of being the first actor in India to complete 100 films as a hero.
Technical brilliance can be seen throughout the film in terms of cinematography, screenplay and direction. Marcus Bratley handled the camera while Kamalakara Nageswara Rao is the director. This landmark film was produced by B.Nagireddy and Chakrapani. Legendary singer Ghantasala scored the music.
TFI should feel proud to have made films like ‘Gundamma Katha’ and on the occasion of the film completing 50 years after release, let us remember and cherish this evergreen classic.
