Published on Mar 25, 2019 4:02 pm IST

Ever since singer Chinmayi spoke out against lyricist Vairamuthu and accused him of sexual harassment, she has been facing severe consequences in Tamil film industry. She was suspended from the dubbing union on flimsy reasons, and after a long legal battle, the court passed an order in her favour. Although she hasn’t been inducted back into the dubbing union yet, the singer is continuing her fight against the bigwigs in the industry including Vairamuthu and Radha Ravi.

Recently, when Radha Ravi was slammed by the whole industry for his comments on Nayanthara, several technicians and actors came out in support of Chinmayi who has been fighting relentlessly against Radha Ravi, the head of the dubbing union. Meanwhile, Govind Vasantha, the music director of 96, announced that no one can stop him from working with Chinmayi again. It’s the first time that a Tamil music director has taken such a bold stand ever since Chinmayi brought up sexual harassment allegations on Vairamuthu.

The singer was touched by Govind Vasantha’s stand, and thanked him for supporting her. Directed by Prem Kumar, the film, 96, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, went on to become a critical and commercial success. Chinmayi’s dubbing for Trisha was praised unanimously; however, the singer and dubbing artiste hasn’t been allowed to dub for anyone else since then.
