Maidaan, which has Ajay Devgn in the lead role, has opened to shockingly low numbers. The movie, directed by Badhaai Ho fame Amit Sharma, received rave reviews, but in the first two days, the movie just collected around 10 crores nett, which is disappointing. This has shaken the entire industry.
But on day three, the film registered a solid jump of 100% vis-a-vis Friday and raked in over 6 crores nett, making it the biggest day for the sports drama. The good word of mouth, along with the BOGO offer, helped the movie post a strong number on Saturday.
The bookings for Sunday look solid as well which is a good sign, but it is important that the film stays strong on the weekdays as it took a bad opening. As expected, the film’s business is being driven by urban centers, and if mass centers also join the party, it might change the tide for this biographical film.
