After years of delay, Vemal and Shriya Saran’s Sandakari is finally set to hit theatres on September 18, 2026. Directed by R. Madhesh, the Tamil romantic comedy was shot in 2019 and was initially planned for release in 2020. The film is produced under the banner of Boss Production Corporation.
The film came into the spotlight earlier this year after winning three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for 2020, despite not having been released. Sandakari won Best Film (Third Prize), while Amrish won Best Male Playback Singer and Iyyappan won Best Art Director. The awards led to questions on social media regarding how an unreleased film was considered for the honours.
Sandakari is a remake of the 2012 Malayalam film My Boss, with Vemal and Shriya Saran in the lead roles. Prabhu and Sathyan are among the other prominent cast members, along with K. R. Vijaya, Rekha, Dev Gill, Uma Padmanabhan, Punnagai Poo Gheetha, Crane Manohar and Mahanadhi Shankar. Amrish composed the music, R. B. Gurudev handles the cinematography and Dinesh Ponraj is the editor.
