Bollywood star hero Ajay Devgn recently appeared in the sports drama Maidaan. It is the biopic of Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who revolutionized the sport in India. The film, directed by Amit Sharma, received glorious reviews and word of mouth, but that wasn’t reflected in the box office numbers. Maidaan earned just about 50 crores nett in its lifetime in India.
Maidaan’s underperformance can be attributed to the change in taste of the audience post-COVID. The biographical film is now available for streaming on Prime Video in Hindi audio along with English subtitles. But to watch the film, you need to pay Rs. 349 as a rental fee. The rent-free option is expected after two weeks.
Given the underwhelming performance in theatres, Maidaan is expected to gain solid traction on OTT. Priyamani played the wife of Ajay Devgn. The movie also stars Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh in crucial roles. Boney Kapoor, in collaboration with ZEE Studios, produced this biopic. Oscar-winning AR Rahman composed the tunes.
