Icon Star Allu Arjun created waves across the globe with his last release, Pushpa 2: The Rule. Directed by Sukumar, this high-octane pan-Indian action drama stormed the global box office, raking in over Rs. 1800 crore. With Rashmika Mandanna returning as the female lead, the film had all the right ingredients to be a massive success- and it delivered.
However, the story was a little different when it came to the film’s television debut. Pushpa 2 premiered on Star Maa on April 13, 2025, and registered a TRP of 12.61. While that number is respectable, it pales in comparison to the performance of the first installment, Pushpa: The Rise, which garnered a massive 22.54 TRP. Even Allu Arjun’s previous hits like Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (29.4 TRP) and Duvvada Jagannadham (21.7 TRP) had significantly stronger TV ratings.
So where did things go off track? Despite its record-breaking run in theaters, the television response was lukewarm. Whether it was due to timing, audience saturation, or changing viewing habits, the small-screen reception didn’t quite match the big-screen hype.
Looking ahead, Allu Arjun is gearing up for his next big project with director Atlee. The film is currently in pre-production, with Sun Pictures bankrolling the venture. Given the star power and the buzz around this collaboration, expectations are already soaring.
