Animal Set for Japan Release – Is Dhurandhar the Reason?

Tollywood director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor created a massive box office impact with Animal, which went on to gross approximately Rs. 917 crore at the global box office.

Two years after its theatrical release, the makers have announced the film’s release in Japan. Animal is set to make its theatrical debut there on February 13, 2026. While the announcement has been received positively by fans, trade circles are viewing the move with measured curiosity.

The development comes at a time when recent Bollywood box office sensation Dhurandhar has surpassed Animal’s lifetime collections across domestic, overseas, and global markets. This has led to speculation within the trade that the Japan release could help Animal extend its overall box office tally through untapped overseas markets.

However, Japan remains a niche territory for Hindi cinema, and its response to films like Animal is difficult to predict. Whether the late overseas release significantly alters the film’s global standing will only be clear after its Japanese theatrical run.

Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar continues to ride strong momentum at the box office, aided by minimal competition and the holiday window. The film is now approaching the Rs. 1000 crore global gross mark, a milestone that would mark yet another historic achievement for Hindi cinema.
