It all began with Mahesh Babu’s industry-hit Pokiri as the film was re-released for the actor’s birthday. The response was nothing short of a sensation. Pawan fans were quick to respond, and the actor’s Jalsa, too, registered remarkable collections. Later blockbusters like Kushi, Thammudu, Businessman, Okkadu, and Simhadri were also re-released for special occasions, and all these films made huge noise at the box office.
Also, Ram Charan’s disaster Orange has set the cash registers ringing. Even a few dubbed films like Surya S/O Krishnan and Raghuvaran B.Tech received a good response. But of late, the response to re-release films is gradually decreasing. It seems that the audiences are vexed with these re-releases and are no longer interested in watching old films.
However, a few are of the opinion that not every old film is suitable for re-release. They are further commenting that the re-releases need to be done only for special occasions and not on a regular basis. Up next, Venky, Nuvvu Naku Nachav, and Shivaji are lined up for re-release. By looking at the collections of these films, we can come to a conclusion about the re-releases.
