Childhood incident inspired Suriya’s Karuppu, reveals director R.J. Balaji

Karuppu continues its dream run at the box office, crossing the ₹350 crore mark worldwide and emerging as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. Starring Suriya in the lead role, the film has received tremendous appreciation from audiences across regions.

Amid the film’s success, director R.J. Balaji shared an interesting detail about its origin. Speaking at a recent event, he revealed that the story was inspired by an incident from his childhood.

“That one incident though it is personal, happened to me in my childhood, is exactly how the story of Karuppu came to be,” the filmmaker said, opening up about the creative spark behind the project.

The revelation has added a personal touch to the film’s success story, with fans appreciating how a real-life memory evolved into a massive cinematic hit.
