Dil Raju – I became part of Shaakuntalam to learn about international cinema

Shaakuntalam starring star actress Samantha is one of the biggies to arrive this summer. The movie, directed by Gunasekhar, is a mythological drama based on the play Shakuntala written by Kalidasa. Dev Mohan plays the male lead in this movie which is produced by Neelima Guna. The movie is also releasing in 3D. Today the 3D trailer launch event was held in Hyderabad’s iconic Prasads multiplex.

Speaking on occasion, Dil Raju said that Telugu cinema had come a long way. He added that he had produced 50 movies, including Varisu in Tamil. Dil Raju stated they also scored a success with Balagam and added that their Game Changer is also arriving soon. The producer noted that Shaakuntalam is releasing now and revealed that he was not part of Shaakuntalam when Gunasekhar envisioned this project with Samantha.

Dil Raju said that Samantha’s manager Mahend told him that it would be good if he listens to the film’s plot. Dil Raju revealed that everyone thought he became part of Shaakuntalam for helping Gunasekhar but clarified that he joined the team for selfish reasons. Dil Raju said that Telugu cinema has gone global, and hence he became part of this mythological drama to learn about international cinema. Dil Raju added that his intention behind joining the team is to learn more about visual effects.

Dil Raju noted that generally, producers wouldn’t have much work with regard to this kind of films. However, the senior producer made it clear that he wanted to earn knowledge as well as help Gunasekhar through this movie. “Rajamouli Garu took Telugu cinema to PAN Indian level with the Baahubali series and to the global level with RRR,” said Arya producer. Dil Raju noted that Shaakuntalam is his first step in furthering Telugu movie standards at the global level.

He added that the movie is a beautiful family drama with visual brilliance. “Family audiences will enjoy Shaakuntalam on April 14th,” said Dil Raju. The Bommarillu producer said that the next generation should learn about stories like Shaakuntalam and added that they are bringing this movie to the audience this summer. Dil Raju said there would be a surprise for the audience in the form of Allu Arha while coming out of the theatres. Dil Raju said that the movie is 2 hours and 19 minutes long and that they ensured the viewers wouldn’t get bored at any point.
