This Independence Day weekend, Sunny Deol is arriving with the period action drama Batwara 1947. The film is set in Lahore against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition. Rajkumar Santoshi helmed this flick, and Preity Zinta plays the female lead.

Despite Aamir Khan backing this biggie and several big names attached to it, the film couldn’t generate the desired buzz. The advance bookings are currently low, and the film now relies on word of mouth to improve its box office prospects.

Batwara 1947 sold less than 20K tickets at the national chains so far, and it remains to be seen if it can pick up closer to the release. On the other hand, Awarapan 2, the film’s competitor, is rocking with solid advances.
