England clinch ICC World Cup in a thrilling finale

In what can be termed as the most thrilling finale in the World Cup history, England clinched the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The hosts have beaten New Zealand in a nail-biting match that decided the winner in a Super Over. Celebrations have erupted and fans’ joy knows no boundaries as its the first ever World Cup for England.

Batting first, New Zealand made 241 by losing 8 wickets in 50 overs. Chasing a simple target, England lost quick wickets due to pressure and the match headed towards the Super Over after a dramatic last ball tie. In the deciding Super Over, Jos Butler and the match’s hero Ben Stokes together made 15 off Trent Boult’s bowling.

With a challenging total to chase in a nerve-racking Super Over, New Zealand’s Martin Guptill and James Neesham too could only make 15 and the match once again ended in a tie. England automatically became the world champs on the basis of maximum number of boundaries.
