Epic, starring Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya, is hitting the big screens this week. The movie, directed by #90’s fame Aditya Haasan, surprised one and all with its bold content showcased in the theatrical trailer. Some even criticized the makers for including adult themes in a film that is based on the much-loved series.
In an interview, producer Naga Vamsi responded to the criticism in his style. “I was surprised by the reactions after the trailer came out. Many are asking us how we included lip-lock and makeout scenes. I am wondering if people didn’t expect that style from Aditya Haasan or from Epic. I don’t understand what’s wrong with the trailer. The same person who made #90’s directed Epic,” said Naga Vamsi.
The star producer added, “Why will a kid who was mischievous in his school days behave in the same manner when he grows up and moves to London for education? Why did people expect the hero to remain the same naughty guy in this modern generation? People do change with time. Epic is an experiment in the commercial space. We broke the usual storytelling format seen in a love story, like the interval bang.”
Naga Vamsi further mentioned, “We depicted how a confident and modern girl from Hyderabad and a shy person from Wanaparthy behave, and how love blossoms between them. Telugu cinema has never really discussed the conversation between a boy and a girl the day after physical intimacy. We also discussed periods, something rarely seen in commercial cinema.”
