Female-oriented films creating a new wave

The film industry in India has always been a male-dominated one as films open big because of the power of the star heroes. Stars like the Khan’s have been dominating the box office for a long time but things have changed since the last year or so as content-oriented and female-centric Hindi films have been doing well.

The latest example is Alia Bhatt’s Raazi and the newly released Veer De Wedding. Both these films have been strong female-centric stories but still managed to take the box office by fire.

Raazi managed to make 120 crores at the box office and Kareena, Sonam’s controversial Veer De Wedding is nearing its 70 crore mark. This clearly shows that the audience’s perception is changing as they are accepting star heroines doing content-driven films.

In Telugu too, the culture is slowly coming as the remake of Queen has some top stars doing the film in Tamil and Telugu. Also, Manchu Lakshmi is coming up with a female-oriented film called Wife of Ram.

Let’s hope that more female-centric films get made in India and we get to see a female domination at the box office for a change.
