Gautham Menon – The focus should be on content but not budget

Famous filmmaker Gautham Menon is gearing up for the release of his Malayalam debut film, Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse. The investigative thriller stars Mollywood Megastar Mammootty in the lead role, and it is slated to hit screens on January 23, 2025. During the film’s promotions, the director made some interesting comments.

Gautham Menon said, “Frankly speaking, movies don’t need a big budget. All that matters is good content. Instead of making Rs. 100 crore films, the focus should be on producing 10 movies with a budget of Rs. 10 crore each. Most Tamil stars want to work only in high-budget films and are not even bothered about the scripts.”

Gautham Menon added, “If I were given a choice, I would bring everything here (Mollywood), starting with stories. Half of those stories will never get made in Tamil cinema. If a film succeeds in Malayalam, it will be remade in Kollywood, but the Tamil actors will never say yes to such original scripts. After this statement, I might not be able to work in Tamil cinema.”
