Today is the birthday of Sridevi, a timeless beauty who commands millions of fans around the world. Born on August 13th 1963, Sridevi spent much of her childhood in Chennai and made her acting debut in films as a child artiste with the film ‘Kandan Karunai’ in 1967. Her first Telugu movie role was also as a child artiste in the movie ‘Bhaarya Biddalu’ in 1971. She made her first appearance as a heroine in Telugu with ‘Bangarakka’ in 1977. But it was the smash hit ‘Padaharella Vayasu’ in 1978 which won her fame and recognition.
Throughout the 70’s 80’s and early 90’s , she went on to star in a string of blockbusters in Telugu as well as in Tamil. She rose to fame in Bollywood as well, becoming the most famous actress in India by 1990. She is widely hailed as the first female Superstar of Indian cinema.
The actress made a remarkable comeback with ‘English Vinglish’ in 2012. She is now in the process of finalising some promising projects.
