In a heartbreaking news for millions of fans, Sandalwood Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar passed away on Friday (Oct 29) afternoon after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. Fondly called as Appu by his fans and well-wishers, Puneeth reportedly complained of chest pain while working out in his gym earlier today. He was reportedly admitted to the ICU at Vikram Hospitals in Bengaluru in an unresponsive condition. Doctors’ efforts to save the beloved actor went in vain. Fans and friends are unable to accept the news of Puneeth’s passing, as he was just 46-years-old and one of the fittest actors in the Kannada film industry.

Born Lohit Rajkumar to legendary Kannada thespian Rajkumar and Parvathamma on March 17, 1975, Puneeth made his silver screen debut as a toddler with the 1976 film, Premada Kanike. He won the National Award for Best Child Artiste for the 1985 film, Bettada Hoovu. Puneeth went on to make his debut as a hero with Puri Jagannadh’s blockbuster 2002 Kannada film, Appu (Idiot in Telugu).

Veera Kannadiga, Milana, Arasu, Hudugaru, Jackie, Power, Chakravyuha, Raajakumara and Natasaarvabhowma are some of his notable movies. Puneeth’s last film was the 2019 action entertainer, Yuvarathnaa. His James and Dvitha are under production. This morning, Puneeth took to Twitter and wished his elder brother Shiva Rajkumar and the entire team of Bhajrangi 2 on the film’s release.

While an official announcement regarding Puneeth’s passing is awaited, the Karnataka government has issued a high alert across the state. Police forces have been deployed and schools, colleges and theaters are shut.
