Star Bollywood director Rajkumar Hirani is gearing up for his OTT debut with Pritam and Pedro, a series that blends cybercrime, mystery, and comedy. Hirani is serving as producer and creator of the show, which marks the acting debut of his son, Vir Hirani. At a recent promotional event, Hirani revealed that the idea emerged from an unexpected conversation during the COVID lockdown.
He said, “During the COVID period, I received a call from the head of the Mumbai Cyber Cell about making a film on cybercrime, but no one was actively working on the subject. I asked them to share the concept, saying I could develop it from home. In the process, I connected with Amit Dubey, who gave me a book of his short stories, a collection that included several ideas suitable for short films.”
After reading them, Hirani felt that one of those stories could be expanded into a larger, multi-layered narrative. The filmmaker later came up with an entirely new story inspired by those short stories, and that’s how Pritam and Pedro began.
Directed by Avinash Arun, the series also features an ensemble cast including Arshad Warsi, Vikrant Massey, Boman Irani, and Mona Singh. The show will start streaming on July 3.
