Just a few hours ago, Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan shared a detailed Instagram note on visual effects, at a time when the teaser of Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana is facing mixed reactions online. While he did not mention any film, the timing places his remarks within the ongoing debate.
Hrithik acknowledged that poor VFX does exist, but clarified that visuals should not be judged purely on realism. He pointed out that films, especially in fantasy and mythology, often follow distinct visual styles that are not meant to mirror reality.
He argued that VFX should be evaluated based on whether it achieves the intended look and experience. In his view, ineffective VFX is not about appearing unreal, but about failing to deliver the film’s chosen visual language.
The actor also highlighted the scale of effort behind such projects, noting that VFX heavy films involve years of work by large teams of artists, and therefore deserve more informed criticism.
Without dismissing audience reactions, Hrithik ultimately called for a shift in perspective from questioning realism to understanding whether the visuals serve the story and its intended impact.
His post has since triggered a divided response online. While some viewers resonated with his explanation, a larger section continued to question the quality of recent big budget visuals, suggesting that intent alone may not justify the final output. The conversation, for now, remains far from settled.
