Red is gearing up for a big release this 14th of January and promotions are in full swing. On this occasion, we caught up with the heroine Nivetha Pethuraj for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.

How did you bag this film?

As I have worked with Kishore Tirumala garu long back, he told me that he is remaking a film called Thadam from Tamil. As I knew about Thadam and its story and success, I said yes right away and did not even watch the original as I had to do my cops’ role freshly.

What’s so special about your role that you said yes to the film?

I play a cop in this film but there is an edge to it as I am very innocent from the inside but do not show it out. I look like a tough cop but am so venerable. I was very scared to put up a serious face which was very hard. Such a character design comes rarely and I lapped it up. Also, I believe in Kishore sir’s ideology so things became easy.

How was it working with Ram?

Ram has a very weird sense of humor. He will say something and will laugh himself. Till now, I have failed to understand his humor. But as a co-star, he is top class. He used to talk to me in Tamil and made things super easy for me. He is playing a dual role and did an amazing job with his performance.

Why are you mostly doing second leads?

There is no problem in doing second leads. Unless and until your role is good, what’s the issue in doing such films. In Ala Vaikunthapuramlo, I had a small role but see the reach that the film took and now I am getting good offers because of it.

Working experience with Kishore Tirumala?

Kishore garu gave my role a unique touch. Even though I play a cop, you will see me in a subtle role. He is quite clear about the role and made some small changes in my body language. I surrounded by his vision.

Will you do out and out glam roles in the future?

Why not. I am game to do glam roles. But there should be a purpose in my role. If that works, I do not have a problem. In Tamil, I signed silly films and did a mistake. But now, I have become quite choosy.

Future projects

I signed one film in Tamil and have a web-based film with Chandoo Mondeti. I am doing a special appearance in Virata Parvam and you will see me in a mass role in Vishwak Sen’s Paagal.

How are you planning your career?

I want to do all sorts of films and make a good name for myself in Telugu. I want to be like Vijay Sethupathi who does all sorts of roles. Why cannot a woman be doing all sorts of roles apart from being a heroine?
